This section has been compiled to assist individuals contemplating the Six Metre Class and was prompted by the volume of enquiries for information received over the past years.
Much of the information has been previously published, either in the Six Metre Owners Association Newsletter, Wavelengths, or in various commercial publications. We are indebted to John Cundell, Editor of Radio Control Boat Modeller and Model Boats as well as Chris Jackson, Editor of Marine Modelling and Model Yachting News. Both of whom freely gave permission to reprint articles originally appearing in their publications.
Whilst the Web Master has tried his best, given the constraints of time to update and improve some of the content. It is always possible that you, the reader, might have some useful additional information. He would therefore, request that if you wish something to be included that you think will assist, advise him accordingly and he will do his best to incorporate it.
Some Skippers are going to established designers and commissioning their own one - off yacht. This, in fact, need not be as expensive as it might at first appear, especially when the entire cost of the project is taken into account.
The Six Metre Class enjoyed a sustained growth in popularity, which was matched by new designs becoming available. In order that top designers are encouraged to continue publishing drawings, it is essential that builders do not abuse this privilege. Whichever way you intend building your Six Metre (or in fact any boat), remember that the purchase of a set of drawings includes a royalty to build the one boat. If you buy a Glass Hull/Kit of a published design, you should also purchase drawings. This is not only to ensure accurate construction, but thereby ensuring a royalty to the designer has been paid. If you build additional boats to a drawing, most designers will quote a reduced royalty for subsequent boats.
Finally, may we wish you success with your Six Metre and remember, many Yachts have been built by individuals with no great facilities.
If you would like your Six Metre added to the boatography contact the webmaster with a picture and details.
