The Result of the SW District 6m Championship for 2019
SOUTH WEST DISTRICT 6 METRE CHAMPIONSHIP
DARTMOOR M.B.C. looks forward to welcoming all competitors and visitors to SHAUGH LAKE for the 6M event to be run on Saturday the 4th of MAY.
This will be the second time that the club has hosted this event on the lake which borders the Dartmoor National Park. The venue provides something different for the racing skipper as the lake lies in the now unused section of a china clay production area. The lake has two fully walkable control zones and an elevated platform control zone on the north side. Boat launching is from two separate fully decked platforms. Although not the largest of lakes, it is sizeable enough to enable courses for most racing classes to be laid.
Racing can be challenging at times due to the nature of the surrounding countryside and the weather conditions associated with the moor. The venue is popular with a significant number of visiting competitors wanting to return to it because of the calibre of organised racing which the club offers. As a private club with free car parking, toilets, buildings and event gazebo’s it has a lot to offer, but it also something else, scenic Dartmoor as a backdrop.
The local active 6M fleet is made up of designs ranging from classic Dolphin’s through to the Rococo and has seen new boats join the fleet this year. Local competition is keen due to the background of the skippers racing them and all are expected to enter this event and the National Championships to be held at the club in September.
The Area Championship makes an ideal opportunity as a pre-feeder to the Nationals this year. For further information see – www.dartmoormbc.org where there is more pre-event and location information. Also, the NOR for the event.
See you on the Start line.
