August 19th 2017 Host Club: Two Islands RYC
The day arrived with a reasonable turn out of skippers and 8 boats on the starting line for the racing, the weather was from a good top suit breeze to a top of top suit breeze in the gusts, with the wind coming down the lake in a roughly westerly direction. We started off on time with a practice race and some adjustments (length of start line etc) and we set off on the event proper by 10.15 am, there now followed a demonstration of how to sail a six as Dave Green with his Ravenna proceeded to win 9 of the 10 races before lunch, this was just good consistent sailing, at various times in the morning Mike Kemp and myself got in front of him and then gave away the position through bad planning bad tacks bad choice of shifts, Mike Kemp did make one win in the morning. The rest of the racing was close throughout the fleet with many little battles going on the wind was a little demanding as the gusts and shifts were very difficult to predict. There was a good first race meeting from Geoff Raygada with his new Romanza, Dave Keridge from Harwich & Dovercourt had a good learning experience and I hope enjoyed his day. After lunch things did get a little less one sided but only a little and there was some shuffling of the positions from the lunchtime results, but as can be seen on the spreadsheet Dave Green took an excellent event win from myself and Mike Kemp( we think this is Red Dwarf's first race for at least 10 years) it was great to meet up with the protagonists on the water in sixes again, thank you gentlemen for an excellent days racing in great spirit with no little measure of skill, finally it was nice to see amongst the pensioners young Tomas Green with his Tern bringing up the rear in I think his first six metre open.
