The event started with nearly perfect weather, sunshine with skippers having to make the choice between the top of top suit proper or substituting a skinny main due to the wind strength. Direction was a very welcome straight up and down the lake which allowed the PRO Geoff Earl to set a triangle plus sausage course which gave the fleet three brilliant beats up the lake.
Neil Cousins, a newcomer to sixes ( welcome to the fleet Neil ) sailing his newly acquired Ravenna, courtesy of Terry Burton, went well all morning . John Hanton along with Terry Burton and Vinnie Zammitt were all in contention, particularly interesting as Terry and Vinnie were both sailing Tias yachts, which is recognised as a lighter wind design.
Mike Ewart made a slow start in the morning and had some problems with a broken mainsheet post but in the afternoon came into the reckoning and got his Ravenna going properly with the line honours falling to Mike, Terry and Vinnie.
. Overall it was a great day, Whilst these yachts will sail in all weathers, the conditions were great for close racing and that was what we got, with tight battles to windward.
A totting up of the scores saw a good maiden victory for Neil Cousins. Well done Neil.
