Well the new year is upon us and the first Six Metre Open of the year, at 2 Island RYC, the day dawned dry!!! but cold and when I arrived at the lake it was doing its impression of a mirror and doing it well, but by the time we got around to sailing there was a light breeze from the North West giving an opportunity to set a reasonable course.
We started out around 10.15am due to slight delays with course setting and a couple of late arrivals, (put the tranny in the car first Chris) we had a good turnout of nine boats two Ravenna's, two Romanza's, two Roccoco's a Revival, a Renaissance and a Dan 6.
During the racing it was difficult to pick out a boat that was faster in general but it was noticeable that the Ravennas were strong to windward and the local experienced six sailors had an advantage over the newer skippers mainly in boat handling.

Dave Green sailed an impeccable series 12 firsts out of 16 races, good consistent sailing but everybody had their turn up the front or so it seemed, there was always changes taking place without exception every skipper had at least one finish in the top three, well done.
New boats on the water, well the cheeky girls are a bit old hat now, but they were starting out their second year of competition, Colin Davies brought his very recently acquired Roccoco for his first six metre race. Keith Bell delayed a trip to Ireland to race Geoff Raygada's Revival also in his first six metre race and Chris Cook came down from Bournville club for his first six race at Two Islands.
16 Races completed no fist fights no protests and gentlemanly behaviour amongst a great group of guys thanks all of you a great day out many more to come this year keep an eye on the web site for the race dates and locations and do think about a bit of travelling this year now that the fuel cost are down to the levels we used to enjoy we have races at Broads Harwich and Dovercourt and Lee Valley to look forward to and expect a good welcome at all of these clubs
