Paul Risdale has competed the cedar planking on his Siskin Six, sadly he was unable to attend the recent Midlands Trophy Series Race at Two Islands RYC, Furzton where he would have no doubt been able to glean some useful information from Peter Salt.

I think that those of you who love to sail these majestic yachts will agree that Nigel Gilson once again manufacturing a Six Metre can only be good news for the Class, the following message was sent to me after recent telephone conversations .
"I would like to confirm that the building of the Ankh 6mtr (formally Dann 6mtr.) will commence with the plug on Monday 13th Feb 17. The first Carbon hull to be sailing during May 2017. This is to be a full time project with a fully skilled carpenter/moulder employed on the project for 3 months. It is hoped to produce 6 complete hulls ready for fitting out with rigs/radio. Cost to be confirmed later. However along with the need for quality mouldings & a competitive pricing structure that the 6mtr sailors deserve & enjoy will be No1 prioty The Carbon Dann 6mtr was very competitive winning many match racing & fleet events being 2nd only to the helming skills of G. Bantock. Ankh 6mtr will be based on the dann6mtr with some refinements in the hull Fin & lead departments, however she will fundamentally be the same tried tested & proven successful hull as I used during 2002-4. Please Note that the wooden Dann 6mtr with the Experimental Large aft bustle & very light displacement built by Jack Day was an experiment that has Nothing to do with the carbon fibre Dann/Ankh 6mtr & was very usefull in terms of learning what Not to do!" Nigel is also looking for his wooden built Dann 6 mtr last seen in Scotland if anyone has information feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will pass the information along. Progress to date The cedar strips I bought came in two colours – 20 coffee brown, the rest almost white. I have used the coffee almost down (or up as hull is currently inverted) to the waterline and the white below. Planking the bulge at the stern proved challenging but I think I have sorted it. Planks not a neat as I would have liked, but with a 1 mm sanding allowance plus covering with glass cloth, it should look alright in the end. Never one to pass up the oppurtunity to put some pictures of some beautifully made sixes on the site I have recently recieved this update from Cliff Grove. The restoration details of Alexander will be of particular interest I think. "Just thought i would let you know that I have added your excellent web site to my new 6mt page. http://www.grovepondyachts.com/daniels-6mt/ I have also just completed an Alexander 6 Mt restoration that your followers may be interested in. http://www.grovepondyachts.com/alexander-6-mt/ Finally a bit of a self indulgence by my wife and i but we have opened a shop called "The Pond" in Corbridge Northumberland, selling Pond yachts and Dragonflys I think it is probably the only vintage pond yacht shop in the country and been very well received.
http://www.thepondcorbridge.com/ Every one who comes in the shop loves the 6 metre even people who know nothing about model yachting." Basil Carmody is building a model six metre of his own full size Michel Selig, a yacht he has restored himself. Basil has very kindly agreed to update us on his radio Six Metre Michel Selig II build as the work progresses, you can find his very interesting introduction article here.

Regularly updated as work progresses the Romanza Blog will hopefully give you many of the answers and possibly keep you entertained as well.
